Social Security for Food (SSA) is a relatively new subject. The idea emerged
\nin France in 2017, within the French NGO Ingénieurs Sans Frontières (ISF)¹.
\nIn 2019, the NGO formed the “Pour une sécurité sociale de l’alimentation” collective.
\nSince 2020, the idea has been gaining ground. It is spreading in France, then in Belgium, thanks to
\na few articles, a few animations, but above all thanks to a gesticulated conference
\nentitled “De la fourche à la fourchette… Non! L’inverse!”² by Mathieu Dalmais
\n(a French agronomist and ISF activist).
\nGradually, associations and citizens’ groups are mobilizing to
\nthink about SSA, to publicize the idea and then to test it on a small scale. In
\nBelgium, the Collectif de réflexion et d’action sur une Sécurité Sociale de l’Alimentation
\n(CréaSSA), which brings together some sixty players from the associative, public and
\nprivate sectors concerned with food, social and ecological issues, has been active on the
\nquestion since 2021.
\nToday, pilot projects are underway in France. Some
\nalso exist in Belgium, and new local experiments are in preparation. <\/p>\n
